RP- Musanze College and Jinhua University of Vocational Technology Deepen Strategic Partnership Driving Skills Development and Innovation

Rwanda Polytechnic-Musanze College, and Jinhua University of Vocational Technology
(JUVT) are celebrating the tangible impact of their strategic partnership, which is
transforming technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Rwanda.
By combining academic expertise, industry collaboration, and hands-on learning, the
partnership is equipping lecturers, inspiring students, and preparing a skilled workforce for the country’s socio-economic growth.
Speaking about the impact of the partnership, Eng. Emile Abayisenga, Principal of
RP–Musanze College, said, “This partnership is built on a shared vision of aligning
education with the evolving needs of the labour market. By strengthening the capacity of our lecturers and connecting training to industry realities, we are improving the quality of training and opening real opportunities for our students.”
Dr. Chen Hairong, Vice President of Jinhua University of Vocational Technology,
emphasized, “Our cooperation with Rwanda Polytechnic reflects a shared commitment to investing in human capital. By working together, we are building skills that will support sustainable development and benefit both our institutions and our societies.”
At the institutional level, the collaboration is already reshaping teaching and learning.
From December 9 th -13 th , 2025, 20 academic staff from RP colleges offering Civil
Engineering courses successfully concluded a five-day industrial exposure program.
This capacity-building engagement exposed participants to modern technologies,
construction processes, and safety standards, bridging the gap between classroom
theory and industry practice.
Eng. Felix Hafashimana, a Civil Engineering lecturer who participated in the program,
reveals, “Visiting sites like Nyabarongo II Hydropower Plant and the Ramba Hills Project gave us firsthand exposure to technologies we had only taught in theory. I now feel more confident integrating real-world examples into my lectures, which will inspire students and make learning more practical.”
Beyond skills development, the partnership is also promiting cultural exchange and
global exposure for students and staff, strengthening people-to-people ties and
broadening perspectives.
Ing. Dipl. Ephrem Musonera, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnic,
highlighted, “This partnership demonstrates how international cooperation can accelerate skills development and socio-economic transformation. Together with JUVT and our industry partners, we are building not only technical capacity, but also
confidence and opportunity for Rwanda’s future workforce.”
The partnership is anchored in a broader collaboration framework signed in November 2024 between Rwanda Polytechnic, JUVT, Zicheng United Construction Group, and Zhejiang Transfar Chemicals Co. Ltd. This multi-stakeholder approach strengthens the link between academia and industry, supports applied research and innovation, and ensures graduates are trained to meet real workplace expectations.
Through joint initiatives, academic exchange, and collaboration with industry, the
partnership is contributing to the development of a skilled, confident, and globally
competitive workforce for Rwanda advancing Rwanda’s vision of socio-economic
transformation.
