TVET Youth Challenge 3rd Edition
On the 09th November 2022, IPRC Musanze hosted the TVET Youth Challenge Competition (the 3rd edition), organized by the Ministry of Youth and Culture in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOIKA), and the Ministry of Education through Rwanda Polytechnic, to promote TVET students’ projects and viable prototypes to the level of producing concrete solutions that generate revenues and address challenges in the community.
In this competition, three best innovations among eight innovations were awarded at the institution level: Irish Potatoes Wine, Starch & Biscuit of NDAYAMBAJE Christian were awarded 1,500,000Frw; Yummy Digestive Cookies of UWASE Cyuzuzo were awarded 1,200,000Frw and Bamboo Board of TWAGIRIMANA J. Aimé was awarded 1,000,000Frw.
In his remarks, Eng. Emile Abayisenga, the Principal of IPRC Musanze, acknowledged the efforts of students in making innovations that are in line with their respective academic programs as a response community needs. He congratulated them on winning the awards at the institutional level and urged them not to waste the cash prizes they had won, but rather to use them to improve and develop their projects. The Principal revealed that the institution will continue to support and empower students by nurturing their project ideas, prototypes, and projects through the Incubation Centre.
UWIZEYIMANA E. Magnus, Business Incubation Specialist, said that TVET Youth Challenge helps in discovering students’ creative capacity in different domains through project development. In addition, he added that it helps to instill an entrepreneurial spirit among students in their respective academic programs. He encouraged students to always try to participate in different initiatives for youth to enhance growth in their career.
With great pleasure, the winners were grateful for the awards they had obtained. Uwase Cyuzuzo, who won the second award with her Yummy Digestive Cookies project, expressed her gratitude to the organizers of such a competition that gives youth an opportunity to reveal their potentials. She mentioned that the award is a milestone toward expanding her project by producing quality cookies in quantity. Uwase mentioned that with her project, she will contribute to solving the issue of malnutrition, mostly in vulnerable families, as the products are rich in a number of nutrients.
The winners at the institution level will meet others from TVET Higher learning Institutions for a five-day bootcamp to acquire various skills related to their projects and business management. After the bootcamp session, contestants will compete at the national level, and 4 best projects will be awarded.
