Rwanda Polytechnic Second Graduation
On the 22nd March, 2019 Rwanda Polytechnic celebrated its second graduation at IPRC Kigali stadium.Up to 2088 graduands from 8 IPRCs of RP were awarded Diploma and Advanced Diploma after completing their studies in different programs in the Academic Year 2017/2018. This noble event attracted a number of people from all sectors and all corners of country; among others there are the graduands and their families, the Staff of RP and its colleges, public and private institutions.
The graduands completed thier studies in different fields namely Civil Engineering, Irrigation and Water Engineering, Agriculture Engineering, Hospitality Management, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Tourism, Forest Resources Management, Mechanical Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, Mining Engineering.
The Minister of education, Dr. Eugene Mutimura thanked the graduands for their achievements and urged them to contribute to the development of the country through Made in Rwanda programme. “I am optimistic that by opening a new door leading to new adventures, you will bring overt contribution in promotion of Made in Rwanda products not as consumers but as developers/producers for both local and international markets,” he mentioned.
The Vice Chancellor of RP, Dr. James Gashumba, revealed that RP wants to create an environment and community where young people flourish through a Competency-Based Teaching and Competency-Based Assessment (CBT/CBA) system; a dual system which allows students ample industrial exposure, a work apprenticeship program, and an active entrepreneurship system involving producing real products for the “Made in Rwanda” market in RP-IPRCs workshops and business incubation centres.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor acknowledged the efforts that the government has been putting in TVET development. He also appreciated the contribution and the support of all TVET development partners and private sector in the process of improving the quality.
RP was established in 2017 with the mission to provide quality education that complies with applicable standards through vocational education that enables the beneficiary to acquire skills required to create jobs and compete in the labour market. It has eight colleges namely IPRC Gishari, IPRC Huye, IPRC Karongi, IPRC Kigali, IPRC Kitabi, IPRC Musanze, IPRC Ngoma, and IPRC Tumba.
