Six projects win prizes in TVET Youth Challenge Competition 2021
On this 10th June 2021, six projects among sixteen that reached the pitching phase won prizes in the TVET Youth Challenge Competition 2021 at the institution level. All six projects were awarded 800,000 Frw, 600,000 Frw, 500,000 Frw, 400,000 Frw, 300,000 Frw and 200,000 Frw respectively.
Best projects:
This competition, under the theme of “Boosting innovation and entrepreneurship for self-reliance,” was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Culture in partnership with the Ministry of Education through Rwanda Polytechnic (RP), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOIKA)-Rwanda and UNDP-Rwanda. The TVET Youth Challenge Competition aims at instilling entrepreneurial spirit among students, support their promising projects and ensure their access to practical studies acquired in solving problems in communities.
In his remarks, Eng. Emile ABAYISENGA, the Principal of IPRC Musanze, expressed his gratitude organizers of TVET Youth Challenge Competition for a huge support given to students to reinforce their projects. The Principal also thanked contestants for their courage of seeking solutions to pressing issues in community through innovative ideas/projects. He encouraged students to translate their skills and knowledge into impactful practical projects, and promised them the support of the institution in a journey of shaping their project ideas through the Incubation Centre.
Jean Pierre HABIMANA, Employment and Skills Promotion Specialist in the Ministry of Youth and Culture explained that the TVET Youth Challenge targets students in TVET higher learning institutions to support their running projects or prototypes. He revealed that about 70 projects will be awarded countrywide. He acknowledged the commitment of TVET students in innovations that respond to various issues including but not limited to job creation.
The winners were happy for such a great achievement made. Gilbert ISHIMWE the overall winner said that the obtained award will help him improve and implement successfully his project of Vertical Nursery Automated Mist Irrigation and Pesticide Spraying System. He encouraged his fellow students to maximize effort in grabbing all opportunities that are available including such a competition.
All six winners will compete with other winners from TVET higher learning institutions at the National Level. The overall prize at the National Level will be five million Rwandan francs (5,000,000 FRW).
