IPRC Musanze joined other academic institutions in the celebration of the World Science Day (WSD) 2018
On this Friday 9th November 2018, IPRC Musanze joined other academic institutions in Rwanda and partners, in the celebration of the World Science Day (WSD) 2018. The World Science Day, under the theme “Science for Peace and Development: Celebrating Science as a Human Right for sustainable togetherness and well-being of people,” was celebrated at UR-CAVM in Busogo.
Dr. Letitia NYINAWAMWIZA, the Principal of UR-CAVM declared that the scientific research should address the pressing issues of our country and of the world in general. She advised the public to take advantage of the available opportunities to build the science-based development. She advised girls to study Science Technology Economy and Mathematics (STEM) for STEM has no gender.
In his remarks, Dr. Isaac MUNYAKAZI, Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary Education, revealed that in the seven-year government programme, STEM will be a priority in all levels of schools by detecting the talents of students at a low age, empowering scientific research centres, and increasing the number of public high school students in science from 44% to 80%. In addition, he clarified that the development of Rwanda should base on science as Rwanda is a landlocked country with no special resources. The Minister mentioned that the Ministry of Education started the International Centre for Theoretical Physics to contribute to the development of science in Physics, and AIMS Africa to help in Artificial Machine Intelligence.
The celebration of the WSD aims to improve access to science and to the benefits of Science, Technology and Engineering Mathematics for sustainable development and conduct awareness on the role of Science, Technology and Innovation in Education Sector.
The event was marked with the public talks, awarding high school students who are competent in STEM, and the exhibition of scientific projects targeting the wellbeing of the society.

IPRC Musanze showcased the following projects:
a. Hydromel (Honey Wine)
b. Avocado Oil
c. Laterite Paving Blicks
d. Reinforced Concrete Garden Furniture
