Africa Skills Competition: A closing ceremony and awards for best competitors.

This 23rd November, 2018 marked the end of the Africa Skills Competition, a three-day competition that took place at IPRC Kigali with the aim of exposing the Rwandan and African youth to a variety of skilled careers. This competition was organised by the Government of Rwanda in partnership with World Skills International and FESTO DIDACTIC.
In his remarks, the WorldSkills International President, Mr Simon Bartley greatly appreciated the effort made by the government of Rwanda to host the Africa Skills Competition. He openly expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders, experts and participants who participated that made the Africa Skills Competition a success. Mr Simon encouraged youth use the available opportunities to make a change in their communities.
The Chairperson of Private Sector Federation, Mrs Eugenie Mushimiyimana, said that the skills development is the pillars that will help Rwanda achieve development gaols. She urged youth to be the active workforce in their careers and respond to the socio-economic pressing issues.
In closing his remarks, the State Minister of Primary and Secondary Education of Rwanda and Guest of Honor, Dr. Isaac Munyakazi, the guest of honor, mentioned that the issue of Education and Workforce Development stands high on the agenda of Africa. He emphasized that ensuring the quality of TVET provision can’t be achieved without the linkage between TVET institutions and the Industry. The State Minister addressed the TVET schools to respond to the needs of the labour market and create a competent, motivated and adaptable workforce capable of driving economic growth and development.
This competition mainly focused on seven trades namely: Mechatronics, Electrical Wiring, Cooking, Welding, Plumbing, Brick Laying, and Hairdressing.
