A project proposal from IPRC Musanze won 2,500 Euros
On this 30th March 2021, a team of 3 trainers working on a project, “Solar-powered Self-travelling Irrigating Machine,” was awarded 2,500 Euros by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). It is in line with a project of “Diaspora engagement to support TVET in Rwanda” in Partnership with MINAFFET and Rwanda Polytechnic.
The awarded project, “Solar-powered Self-travelling Irrigating Machine,” has been designed to improve farming practices by allowing farmers to grow crops on a consistent schedule even during the dry season. In addition, the mentioned machine will contribute to improving crop growth and quality through crop water requirement fulfillment.
In his remarks, Alexander Twahirwa, head of IOM delegation at IPRC Musanze, explained the rational of this project. He mentioned that the Project of Diaspora Engagement is to encourage Rwandans who are abroad to come and contribute to the development of the country (Rwanda) mainly in Health and TVET Sectors. Thus, the TVET sector will get experts in TVET from Diaspora who will train trainers in IPRCs through Rwanda Polytechnic. He highlighted that the given award is part of the project of Engaging Diaspora in TVET in its component of awarding best innovators from IPRCs. Alexander revealed that IOM will continue to follow up the implementation of the awarded projects in different IPRCs to ensure their sustainability.
In his speech, the Principal of IPRC Musanze, Eng. Emile Abayisenga, thanked the government of Rwanda and all stakeholders for supporting innovations at IPRCs and engaging Diaspora to contribute to socio-economic development of the country. He acknowledged the efforts of trainers and trainees in creating innovations and encouraged them to keep up the momentum. He encouraged them to innovate to addressing community issues, and he promised them that the institution will keep on supporting them in a process of nurturing their project ideas to prototypes.
Ecstatically, Jean Claude Twagirimana, who represented the awarded team, expressed his gratitude to IOM for supporting innovations. He thanked IPRC Musanze for its noble support in promoting innovative projects on Campus. He stated that the obtained award will help the team to achieve a lot through the implementing irrigation project.
During this phase of awarding the best project proposal, IOM will award 10 selected best projects from all IPRCs in Rwanda.
